It’s the birthday of an influential man,
But I suspect that he must be surprised,
(that tinsel never was part of the plan)
At how his special day’s now super-sized.
(like many of the folk who celebrate)
The supermarket’s packed with chocolate bars,
And all the stores are staying open late.
I wonder does he gaze down from the stars,
And all this crazy commerce contemplate.

Well, you’ve pretty well hit the nail on the head here, and I think the best line of all is “that tinsel never was part of the plan.”
Good to see you back on here. Is this new sleek, sophisticated look the ‘new you’? Now, just don’t get too sophisticated and leave all of us lesser poets behind.
Hope you and your family had a delightful Christmas.
Thanks Sandra – I found this theme on another poet’s site and rather liked it – hope he doesn’t mind. I’m trying to simplify things a little – don’t worry, no fear of me ever becoming sophisticated. Hope you also had a happy Christmas and New Year.
