Powder Keg

It’s doubtful that it’s now a nation.
It’s really a hotchpotch creation,
All split and fragmented,
With nothing cemented –
A model of Balkanization.

Banished!

He disagrees with our most sacred views.
He has millions of followers it’s said.
He claims that we’re conveyors of fake news.
(That’s news? We after all share the same bed!)
By poor misguided people he is read.
It would be best if he would disappear.
A snake will die if you cut off its head;
A body minus fangs one needn’t fear.
Of course his friends and followers will jeer.
They’ll no doubt say that we have been unkind;
But it’s a leftward course that we must steer,
And to the left must turn each fragile mind.
He must be silenced, lest some be beguiled
By his damned facts – do we agree? – Exiled!

High School Daze

At high school no touching occurred.
And nobody said a bad word.
No boy and girl kissed.
I’ll add to that list –
That no student there ever erred.

Obscurity Becomes Him

“I’ve read your works – I think manure
Has more substance – your stuff is pure
Corruption – it’s awful!
It should be unlawful!”
“Could that be why I’m so obscure?”

Madness

It’s midnight, so strike up the band!
Play for us, “Insanity land”!
Don’t stop until noon,
Then change to the tune,
“A house that’s divided can’t stand”!

The Last Nominee

We are pretty sure this judge is clean.
Though to take up the post he’s not keen.
For he fears some will lie,
And his name crucify.
He is Jesus – the just Nazarene.

Sunset in Winter

The amber glow as day begins to die,
Behind a darkened hill that lies to west,
Where trees that silhouette against the sky
March on like lines of soldiers on its crest.

And where the amber meets the fading blue,
And tinges it with golden streaming light,
With painted colours these last rays imbue
The western sky, before the fall of night.

A Frolicking Accusation!

The accuser, Ms X, has just said:
“We frolicked around on the bed….
I seem to remember…..
In ’60…….December….”
You frolicked! Oh man, you’re so dead!

Dance of the Demos

Politicians aren’t running the show.
Politicians just go with the flow.
They watch the mob sway,
Then move the same way.
They waltz to the way the winds blow.

Small War Couplets

When you can’t tell the foe from your friend,
History tells us – such wars never end.

But we’re winning – we’ll banish the foe!
If you do, he’ll return when you go.

We have rockets and choppers and drones!
But the Taliban have their smart phones.

His insurgency, with science, we’ll stifle.
He’ll just hide in the hills with his rifle.

But I’m telling you – we have the gear!
And your fighters – are they without fear?

But we’re winning in Afghanistan!
No you’re not – though you did get a tan.

What! A tribesman! Should I fear a peasant?
Being shot from long range isn’t pleasant.

A Kalashnikov! – that’s an old gun!
It will still put a hole in you son.
