Those spinning blades on the horizon
Mean your power bills will be risinโ€™.

Weโ€™re sitting on a tank of gas;
Who comes to power? โ€” another ass.

Our coal would last a thousand years;
But brightly burn, irrational fears.

Rent-seekers drain the public purse;
But โ€œClimate Changeโ€ is far far worse.

Go nuclear? No, that wonโ€™t fly;
The science, the ignorant deny.

Then should we drill coal-seam gas wells?
Of course we should, but solar sells.

Okay, but we need base-load power!
Oh dear, thereโ€™s one born every hour.

To The Dark State

Iโ€™m off to South Australia
Where the windmills sometimes turn,
But sometimes not, and then
Itโ€™s tons of diesel that they burn.
Where power is now the dearest
In the Western world by far,
And youโ€™d better drive a Prius
If you want to drive a car.
Where on a windless, cloudy day
The lights will often fail.
Then South Australians pray for
Sunny weather and a gale.
Yes, Adelaide Iโ€™m coming!
Shining beacon of the arts,
Where sit the politicians
Putting horses behind carts.
Theyโ€™re banning nuclear and coal;
Theyโ€™d love to phase out oil,
Despite the fact the trains wonโ€™t run
And water jugs wonโ€™t boil.
But politicians are all fools;
Each one a dangerous pest,
And they wonโ€™t change, so Iโ€™ll conclude
With just this one request:
Please keep the lights on for that week –
The week that Iโ€™ll be there,
Then should you choose a darker state,
South Aussie โ€“ I donโ€™t care.

Juggernaut

The juggernaut rolls on – it canโ€™t be stopped.
Just like a lead balloon โ€“ it canโ€™t be popped.
Each moment of each hour it gathers speed.
Its engineโ€™s made of gold โ€“ its fuel is greed.
The dining car is fitted with a trough
Where first class passengers are heard to scoff
(While burying their snouts up to their ears)
At those who still refuse a slice of pie.
They say that they are fools – that they deny.
โ€œAgree!โ€ they say – itโ€™s just a little lie,
As down the track the gravy train it rockets,
While passengers piss in each otherโ€™s pockets.
To corporations science has sold its soul.
To silence skepticism is the goal
Of โ€œscientistsโ€ who canโ€™t lie straight in bed.
The evidence is in – the theoryโ€™s dead,
But crooked politicians give their mates
More subsidies, more grants and more rebates.
Corruption wins while truth and justice fades
Beneath the tyranny of turning blades.
No care for all the sickness and the harm;
Another day, another ruined farm.
The truth will out, itโ€™s waiting round the bend.
The juggernaut will meet a sticky end.
