Democracy, a system often praised,

Assumes that those who vote are mostly sane.

But what if more than half of them are crazed?

Thus less than half, the sane ones that remain.

To whom would this minority complain?

To those who are elected by the ill?

What would such evil actors have to gain

By bending to a far-outnumbered will?

Democracy is not so hard to kill โ€”

It dies, then comes a sick one party state.

The nation could be governed by a dill

To whom the crazy voters could relate โ€”

Perhaps an old guy half way round the twist;

Could such a possibility exist?

The quality of a democracy

Depends upon the state of the demos.

Observe the voters โ€” for itโ€™s there youโ€™ll see

The quality of a democracy.

Do they choose to be safe, or to be free?

Love liberty, or couldnโ€™t give a toss?

The quality of a democracy

Depends upon the state of the demos.

I fear that Nietzsche may have got it right:
Democracies will decompose to dust.
I read his thoughts, I slept, then woke in fright!
I fear that Nietzsche may have got it right โ€”
His prophecy that that which shone so bright,
Will tarnish over time and turn to rust.
I fear that Nietzsche may have got it right:
Democracies will decompose to dust.

Bad Body Image

Itโ€™s not just politicians, friends;
Theyโ€™ve always worked to their own ends.
You wonder what is tired and sick?
It is the body politic.

They’ve finally reached tipping point.
Their enemy’s queen they’ll anoint.
For theyโ€™ve been invaded;
Their armory raided;
Theyโ€™ve lost all control of the joint.

In our midst now the enemy lives.
His transgressions the system forgives.
Our freedoms he uses
To frustrate accusers;
His aim โ€“ to supplant the natives.

Dictatorship naturally arises out of democracy, and the most aggravated form of tyranny and slavery out of the most extreme liberty. – Plato

A system that assumes that the majority,
Regardless of their current mental state,
Will vote for men and women with authority
To guide a nation to a better fate.

It seems to work while in its early stages,
Before the mob supplants the civilized,
Then greed demands less work but higher wages,
And handouts, bribes and circuses are prized.

Now race and youth and fairer sex are courted
By one side, while the other takes whatโ€™s left.
With unity and integration thwarted;
The state into two warring sides is cleft.

Before long half the country is on welfare;
The other half is picking up the bill.
The warnings are ignored, and pollies donโ€™t care,
For most of them are sucking at the swill.

By now the biggest industry is suing;
The injured and offended clog the courts.
With dollars in their bank accounts accruing;
The country is awash with schemes and rorts.

Vote buyingโ€™s in full swing, the debt is soaring;
Decay is now the overwhelming smell.
From ivory towers the privileged ignoring
That with the plebs theyโ€™ll soon end up in hell.

From there itโ€™s all downhill as nothing delays
The final and inevitable crunch,
When people are reminded there is always
A price to pay for having a free lunch.

Iโ€™m feeling just a little blue,
A prophecy is coming true.
Democracyโ€™s near death I guess,
The mob is voting for largesse.
Thereโ€™s been a smash, thereโ€™s been a crash,
So capital they want to trash.
Although thereโ€™s nothing else that works;
Theyโ€™re full of hate these leftie jerks.
