I’m not very rich – I don’t earn
Much money – to you I must turn
And beg for some dough, for
I’m off to the sports store
To buy some new Nikes to burn!
It’s plastered all over the news,
And Nike has so much to lose.
Nike shareholders scream:
“Why’s this guy on our team?”
I ‘m glad that I’m not in their shoes.
You want me to acknowledge that I’m blessed?
I’m sorry, but I’d rather take the knee.
My country is amongst the very best?
Well that’s a claim with which I disagree.
Oh sure, I’m pampered, overpaid and free,
But man, my great great granny was a slave!
So I am disadvantaged – can’t you see?
How else would you expect me to behave?
I’m proud! And kneeling demonstrates how brave
I am; I feel no loyalty to their song,
Or to this shameful flag they proudly wave.
To stand with hand on heart – that would be wrong!
Down on one knee – that’s how I choose to fight!
(One wonders who he thinks won him this right.)
