A National Disgrace
Nations? Such a concept is outdated!
All borders on all maps must be erased.
Counter-views will not be tolerated.
No fences will be built, walls won’t be raised.
By multitudes our kindness will be praised —
By billions who are striving to be free
To flood our richer lands — they’ll be amazed
By all the wealth and beauty they will see.
From all their worn-out wastelands they will flee.
On our accumulated fat they’ll feed.
And with them they’ll bring war and anarchy.
Old hatreds will be nurtured, bloom, and breed.
There’ll be no nations — tribal ways again
Will triumph and bring misery to men.
— D.N. O’Brien
Dennis, this is so good.
After reading it, I was thinking that in the U. S., we’ve almost become “tribal” again already — with the liberals making up the cannibalistic tribes.
Hi Sandra, I confess I haven’t been over your way for a while, been busy but must rectify that. Yes, the soviets did a very similar thing in the Caucasus, setting tribes and peoples against one another (not that it was too hard with their history) — it’s nothing new.
Hey, don’t worry about not visiting. I understand. In fact, I’ve been so lax –because of work and life in general — that I’ve even wondered if I should stop blogging for a while because I can’t keep up with anyone. I haven’t even posted on the poetry blog for almost a month.
