You want me to acknowledge that I’m blessed?
I’m sorry, but I’d rather take the knee.
My country is amongst the very best?
Well that’s a claim with which I disagree.
Oh sure, I’m pampered, overpaid and free,
But man, my great great granny was a slave!
So I am disadvantaged – can’t you see?
How else would you expect me to behave?
I’m proud! And kneeling demonstrates how brave
I am; I feel no loyalty to their song,
Or to this shameful flag they proudly wave.
To stand with hand on heart – that would be wrong!
Down on one knee – that’s how I choose to fight!
(One wonders who he thinks won him this right.)
The real motivation was that he sucked as a player and could only get attention with his goofy political stunt.
I smell a book in the wind – maybe even a movie.
Good one. You’ve captured the irony of protesting the emblems that stand for the freedom given and protected that gives on the right to protest.
I doubt if irony is their strong point.
