As the Empire of Rome descended to Hell,
So their artists and poets descended as well;
Or was it the artists and poets went first?
And was it for this, that the Empire was cursed?

If the poets went first, then Rome should have been cursed just for that. 🙂
Loved the poem. The actual reason the Empire “descended to hell” was their persecution of Christian and the book of Revelation is about that. Ch.17 gives interpretations of a few of the symbols and the great harlot is defined as the city that sat on seven mountains and ruled the world. 🙂
