Despite what you may have seen or heard,
Don’t doubt the power of the written word.
When freedom falls as a nation fails,
It’s the writers first, who are put in jails.

Again a good one and again – how true!
Absolutely true.
Hear, hear…!
Never a truer word spoken, look to the dictatorships around the world. Look to the exiles who live in fear.
Well said Sir.

Thanks to the Bard, Thomas and Tim for the comments.I hope we all don’t finish up in the Pen. 🙂
This is so good, Dennis. And so very true. I have joked to some of my friends who know how outspoken I am about our current problems in the U. S. government, and I’ve said I wondered if I were on the government’s “black list.” An American named Lou Pritchett, a former vice-president of Proctor & Gamble, wrote an “Open Letter” to President Obama, about a year after he took office, and sent it to the “New Your Times. ” They would not print it (no surprise), but the letter began to circulate through the Internet and eventually came to be printed in many different media venues. He talks about why Obama frightens him, when no other U. S. President ever has. After listing all the things that “scare” him, he closes with this statement: “Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term, I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in eight years.”
Thousands have lived through it in many nations. I pray desperately that we will not have to.
